Dental Implants Annapolis

If you are missing teeth or faced with the prospect of losing a tooth or teeth, you may be a candidate for dental implants. Dental implants are a state-of-the-art option providing a permanent solution that can replicate the quality of life that you enjoyed with your own natural teeth.

Dr. Finlay has been successfully utilizing dental implants to restore his patient’s smiles near Annapolis, Maryland since 1989. The most important component of Dr. Finlay’s approach is in the treatment planning, before any dental work is performed. To remain on the cutting edge of dental implant technology, Dr. Finlay & Associates work closely with a select team of leading oral surgeons throughout Annapolis and Baltimore.

What is a Dental Implant?

Dental ImplantsEssentially, dental implants are artificial roots that allow Dr. Finlay to either design a dental crown or a prosthesis (like a denture) that can attach to these artificial roots to replace the entire tooth.

Implant vs. Bridge

Although a conventional dental bridge is often an alternative, the predictability and long term success of dental implants is unmatched. A dental implant can be utilized to support a freestanding tooth or help retain a denture.

The Dental Implant Process

Treatment planning is the key to Dr. Finlay’s practice. After a comprehensive evaluation, Dr. Finlay will determine if you are a candidate for dental implants. Next, a detailed treatment plan will be designed by Dr. Finlay in coordination with the surgeon who will place the dental implant and a dental lab technician who will create the dental crown or dental prosthesis (denture).

Under IV sedation, the tooth is removed, the bone is evaluated and the implant is placed, guided by the specific details designed by Dr. Finlay. In some circumstances, a patient may be able to receive an immediate provisional tooth while the implant heals.

The implant is then allowed to integrate, or fuse with the bone, for approximately three to four months. Once this integration has taken place, Dr. Finlay will create the final restoration.

Once the implants are restored, they become an incredibly durable part of your smile. Regular check ups are an important part of your ongoing care. With our experienced team we can provide this ongoing treatment for existing implants and even provide repairs and maintenance for implants.
