Smile Redesign

Smile makeovers are a process that Dr. Finlay uses to restore, redesign and rejuvenate your smile. Smile makeovers can address a range of cosmetic and restorative dental concerns leaving the patient feeling confident of their beautiful smile. Annapolis, MD cosmetic dentist Dr. Scott Finlay offers full-service smile makeovers using state of the dental technology.

Smile makeovers require extensive and careful planning. Each step of the process is essential for consistent results that offer better function, fit and aesthetics to your smile.

Steps to A Smile Makeover

  1. Comprehensive Evaluation – The first step in smile design is a one-on-one consultation and oral health evaluation with Dr. Finlay. You will receive a thorough oral health exam that will look for signs of concerns in the teeth, gums, mouth, jaw joints and muscles. Dr. Finlay promotes stable oral foundations for long-lasting beautiful smiles. Any oral health concerns should be addressed prior to having cosmetic dentistry for successful results. During your cosmetic consultation, Dr. Finlay will also analyze your facial appearance, including the symmetry, size of features, skin tone and texture to ensure natural results. During this stage, Dr. Finlay may take diagnostic x-rays, molds, and impressions of the teeth to aid in the next step, treatment planning.
  2. Treatment Planning – Treatment planning is very important in a smile makeover to ensure predictable and beautiful results. Like a blueprint, the treatment plan will lay out the process to create your new smile. Using state of the art dental technology Dr. Finlay uses digital imagining to create a 2-D digital representation of the new smile allowing patients to see what their smile will look like when the smile makeover is complete. At this time patients can express their desire for any modifications. Next, a 3-D model of the new smile will be created to test how the changes will function, ensuring a comfortable fit and bite. Again, changes and adjustments can be made easily at this stage. This stage allows patients to review their proposed changes without making any permanent changes to their teeth.
  3. Tooth Preparation – Once the patient and Dr. Finlay agree on the models, Dr. Finlay will prepare the teeth for the cosmetic changes. Dr. Finlay may also create a prototype, which is a tooth-colored plastic version of the final restoration so the patient can see what their new smile will look like before the final restoration is fabricated and secured.
  4. Final Smile Makeover – The final restoration, whether it is a dental crown, porcelain veneer or dental bridge, will be created at a state-of-the-art dental laboratory. The dental restoration will be created to the exact specifications of the Dr. Finlays models. Once fabricated, the restoration will be permanently bonded for a natural and beautiful smile that will last for years.
